I am a historian, writer and lecturer with a passion for discovering and promoting hidden histories, and proven experience in delivering engaging public lectures, digital content development (web and apps), events planning, facilitating collaborations and making connections between universities, museums, learned societies and archives.
I specialise in the history of archaeology during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, focusing on British archaeologists working in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East, and more recently the Caribbean. That might sound niche, but archaeology is integrated into political, social, cultural and economic changes, and my research incorporates all these areas. I deal with the role of networks, museums, tourism, administrative/legislative history, funding and communications in my work. These topics were and are critical to how society functions across the globe.
I also use digital technology in my research and communication work. Digitisation projects have made historical material easier to access than ever before, allowing us to interrogate and understand the past in new and exciting ways. Simultaneously, web tools enable us to communicate with each other and present new data quickly and easily. I'm committed to communicating the results of historical research to the widest possible audience, through digital means.
